PHILADELPHIA, PA – MAY 19-21, 2016 – VELUX® America’s most recent residential product introductions include a line of roof windows, an expanded selection of skylight blinds, a skylight blind accessory adaptor kit that allows installation of modern blinds on older skylights, an instant skylight shaft kit for faster, easier installations, and a modular skylight that can be utilized for both residential and commercial applications.
Residential Roof Windows
Roof windows, which are similar to skylights but are in-reach and hand-operated, feature a ventilation flap at the top that allows fresh air to enter the home at any time without the homeowner having to worry about security or bad weather. They can greatly increase the amount of natural light and fresh air in the home and the convenient bottom operations makes them a perfect choice for loft conversions and other in-reach applications.
In addition to its traditional top-hinged model (GPU), VELUX now offers center-pivot (GGU), and side-hinged roof access (GXU) models.
The new GXU roof access window offers easy access to the roof for repairs and maintenance or for emergency egress. It can be installed as a left- or right-hinged window and features a locking device to keep the sash in open position. There is a ventilation flap and pre-installed Pick&Click™ brackets for easy blind installation.
The new GGU center-pivot roof window is convenient – even with furniture placed beneath the window. Low installation allows for more flexibility and better views.
The one-of-a-kind deck mounted GDL Cabrio™ balcony roof window features dual-sash operation. This model is less expensive and much more functional than a dormer while offering access to the outdoors from the roofline.
Blinds and Blinds Adaptor Kit
Room darkening double-pleated and light-filtering single-pleated blinds have been added to the line, joining flat blackout and flat light filtering blinds. All are available in solar powered or manual models and in designer colors and patterns for decorating variety, in addition to energy efficiency. Manual Venetian blinds are also available.
Instant Skylight Shaft Kit
This ready-made skylight shaft kit makes for an easy and airtight completion on deck mounted skylight installations. The prefabricated kit does away with the need for drywall spackling, sanding and painting and works with all “box” type light shafts (not flared).
Modular Commercial Skylights with Residential Applications
Designed in cooperation with architects from London-based Foster + Partners, ventilation and sun screening components are subtly integrated within this skylight design. VELUX Modular Skylights mark a shift in the evolution of traditional commercial skylighting while offering another option for residential use as well. This fully prefabricated skylight concept offers the same benefits to commercial buildings that VELUX residential skylights offer to residences. The Longlight model of the line is being successfully utilized in residential installations.
