Installation Process

Expert installation made easy.

VELUX® skylight systems and Sun Tunnel® Skylights can be installed in flat or vaulted ceilings in two worry-free phases: rooftop and interior. The pros at Lighten Up Skylight will recommend where skylight systems should be installed, so you can reap the maximum benefit from the natural light and fresh air they provide.

Installation Types

The Room

VELUX-trained pros will come inside for interior finish work and possible painting. If you have a flat ceiling, your installer will use drywall or other finish material to build a shaft from the skylight to direct the daylight into the room. This phase takes around half a day per skylight.

The Rooftop

VELUX-trained pros will cut a hole and fasten the VELUX skylight to the roof with three layers of protection to prevent leaks. Depending on the circumstances such as roof pitch and weather, the rooftop phase can take between one and three days.
2-3+ Days Total*

The Room

VELUX-trained pros will cut a hole in the ceiling to install the lower portion of the reflective tube between the roof and ceiling.

The Rooftop

VELUX-trained pros will cut a hole in the roof and install the top collar, the upper portion of the reflective tunnel, the lens and the flashing.
2 Hours*

The Room

There may be a small amount of interior drywall work depending on your replacement situation, but the majority of the replacement process will take place on the roof.

The Rooftop

VELUX-trained pros will get measurements from your existing skylights to ensure your replacements are a perfect fit, then they’ll replace your skylights
1 Day Total*

I work at the LONDON HOTEL in West Hollywood ,about 3 years ago the Hotel was replacing there huge Skylight in the Bar area,I watched them daily and was impressed how professional they worked and what a beautiful job they where doing,I asked one of the guys for a card, instead I took a picture of his work shirt with the company name and phone number ,knowing A day would come that I would need them. When I bought my house there where Plastic and ugly skylights in my long hallway,I had blinds made to keep the sunlight out ,so they where mostly closed and you never saw them. When we had the heavy rains last year,I discovered that the Skylights where leaking and ruined the blind cover,I called LIGHTEN UP SKYLIGHT, they where busy and booked, up ,finally my turn came and it was well worth the wait!! I can not tell you how beautiful it all turned out,These guys are the best ever!!!! Sincerely William Escalera

Replaced three existing skylights due to leaking of older dome style. Now we have the flat glass and it not only looks great, but it also reduces noise and holds in heat during the winter and helps keeps the area cool in the summer. The smaller one we replaced with a skylight that opens, which really helps for ventilation in an upstairs bedroom. Will use them again!

I told the employee, Jack, I needed to replace my skylight; it was a large 4 feet by 8 feet, and he went on my home's roof, spent a few minutes, determined the exact measurements and type (curb mount), and took my order. Soon after, my skylight was delivered, and I when I was ready to have my roof replaced a few months later, the workers simply picked up the skylight stored outside in my side yard and installed it -for no additionl charge-and it has been perfect ever since. I recommend this to save any skylight install costs.
