Very Happy with my new Sky Lights from Windy City. Everyone I have dealt with in replacing my 3 skylights were knowledgible, professional and friendly. The sky lights were quickly installed and look great. I highly reccomend them.

We had our two new skylights installed last week and they look amazing! I’m glad we included the light filtering shade. Cody made the initial assessment and estimate process easy and straight forward. Johnny very kindly worked around our schedules for the install and truly went above and beyond to ensure the interior trim work looked flawless. It was apparent that this wasn’t just about getting the job done, but that the look and quality of their craft was just as important to them as it was to us and we greatly appreciate that. We would obviously recommend.

Process made simple. The initial estimate visit was critical for us to make the decision to go with WCS. We were told information not share by the other providers who gave an appraisal. The installation process was great; three Fixed Skylights. It took less than a half a day and when the gentlemen left, we would have never known they were here. The install and clean up was fantastic.

Cody came out and assessed the situation. It was definitely time to replace the Velux skylight which had been installed in 1987. Velux makes a great product but the argon seal doesn’t last forever. When it’s gone, streaks appear between the glass layers. Cody gave me a written estimate and a start date, weather permitting. Ari came out on the start date and did an excellent job. He removed the existing one, installed the new one and also installed interior trim which he painted to match the surrounding wall and ceiling area. The company accepts credit card payment without charging an additional fee. The company warrants its work, as does Velux, and supplies written warranty documents and a lien waiver upon completion and payment. Highly recommend.

Bumping this review up since the quality of the install was quite good. I’m leaving my initial review below due to the early communication issues. I’m leaving an initial review due to the poor communication thus far of the scheduling of the installation of skylights (as of this post,,original schedule was 6 to 8 weeks, with it delayed to 12 weeks). I want to point out that I’ve had to actively reach out multiple times to see when someone would contact me to get the installation scheduled. Even when someone (I’ll call him Mr . M) actually reached out, the scheduling was very flakey. If Mr. M is having personal issues with being able manage the project, why not assign someone else and proactively let the customer know? I had to reach out multiple times to push them to get an install date. There was even miscommunication on their side with someone from Windy City Skylights letting me know an install would happen on a date, but then I received a call from Mr . M that he would not make it on that date. I reached out again to verify if the install would start on that date and again they apologize and corrected themselves from earlier that they indeed could not start on the date they said they would. Very confusing to say the least considering I have to work with my own contractors to schedule some prep work to align with the installation of the skylights. Once the installation is done, I may update my review.

They added two large skylights to my living room, and added a lot of needed brightness. highly recommend

We had our 30-year old skylight replaced this past Oct, 2023, by Windy City Skylights.  What an amazingly great experience it turned out to be; from our initial visit with Cody who came  for the estimate to Chad our installer. Cody checked out our skylight problem and suggested what was good for our situation.  There was no high pressure to buy what was not needed.  In fact we have two other skylights just as old, but since they were not the opening type as the one we had replaced he told us, “they are fine, not broke, leave them alone-can always replace as needed.” Our installer, Chad, was just as wonderful an easy experience as Cody was.  He was so polite, he set to work so efficiently and within four hours he was finished! Before he began, Chad took a piece of our roofing to match it up around the skylight….He left to go to a store and shortly thereafter returned with the exact roof tile.The match was perfect, which was surprising since our roof is 17 years old. Although we were not concerned with a perfect match, it turned out to be a match !  Chad taped drop cloths around the area of replacement, there was absolutely no dusty mess, nothing.  Both me and my husband cannot say enough good about our Windy City Skylight replacement.  Within a little over a month from the estimate to a finished replacement, our experience was absolutely stress-free and perfect !! When and if our other two skylights go bad, you know who we will call !

I needed to have a Velux motorized shade installed in my existing skylight. I made an appointment to have Cody come out for an estimate. He arrived on time. He had great technical knowledge of how the shade needed to be installed and completed the work. The price was very reasonable. I would recommend Windy City Skylights to my family and friends without hesitation. They are a first class, professional company.

Amazing attention to detail in fixed Velux skylight installation. Very careful and thorough, didn't cut any corners.

The folks at Windy City skylights are professional and customer oriented. We had 3 forty year old Velux opening roof Windows replaced. Cody, the sales representative, came out when scheduled and carefully discussed his recommendations with us. We ordered the Velux replacements and were given an estimated delivery of approximately 6-8 weeks. We received a call at 11 weeks that the windows were in and scheduled an installation. The installers started early and completed the outside installation with flashing and sealing by mid afternoon. Johnny, Russell and Mike were friendly and efficient. As the windows were located in a foyer at height of 24 feet, they needed to return twice to accomplish the inside work which was somewhat challenging. At a month after installation the solar powered windows and shades have operated properly and the windows are leak free. Based on our experience, we would recommend them to anyone needing skylights.

I am extremely pleased with our skylight installation. We had an old leaky bubble skylight and it was much overdue for a replacement. We got two quotes and both were very close in amount, the other company was slightly lower but Cody was able to adequately defend the quote he gave and I agreed with the points and reasons Windy City’s quote was a bit higher. Unlike the other company, Cody actually got on our roof and assessed the skylight, brought paperwork and a picture of what the final job would look like and answered all of my questions. The day of Installation went well. Installation did take a bit longer than expected but only because our installer took the time (probably close to two hours) driving around to different roofing stores to find the exact matching shingles for our roof that we now know have been discontinued. He was kind enough to leave the extra shingles if we ever needed them . I really appreciated him taking the time to find the exact shingles as I was worried about them not matching as the light is in a very visible area of the house. Out of all the big projects we’ve done at our home, this one was the one I am most happy with and I have no problem recommending this company to family and friends.

We had a wonderful experience with the installation of our skylights. The installer pointed out that our failed flashing had caused the plywood near the skylight to rot so he replaced the plywood as well, making the whole installation perfect.

We liked the idea of a company that specialized in skylights, so called Windy City. Cody came out. Without any hard selling, he explained all of our options with associated costs to replace our 2006 model. A military discount is available and credit is given if one has their own shingles for any needed due to skylight installation. Payment is due upon installation. Payment by cash or check waives the 5% charge card fee. Bad weather delayed our installation by a couple of weeks, but soon enough we were scheduled. Ben and Jeff showed up before 9 a.m. with a roll of plastic in hand and quickly taped off the inside area. Was surprised how little work was done from the inside, and that was at the end. Took about three hours all in. Looked very clean and seemed to brighten the kitchen more than the previous one. Guys rolled up the used plastic, taking with them all debris removed from and around the house. No nails found anywhere outside. Have already noticed outside noise has been curtailed, and expect the triple low-E heat blocking glass will make a difference this summer. Had some heavy rains last night, but not a drop inside. Great work and great service! Windy City Skylights replaced 4 old skylights in our home. We took advantage of some tax credits and had solar-powered blinds added to the skylights. The crew did a great job installing them, but unfortunately put the different colored blinds in the wrong rooms. The salesman (Cody) personally came out a couple days later along with the Production Manager (Mike) and spent 4 hours making it right.

We had a broken skylight replaced by Windy City Skylights. The salesperson, Cody, had some experience doing the work of replacing skylights and offered us good information and answered our questions as he gave us an estimate. Charles, who manages the office and scheduling gave us a demonstration of how the skylight works using samples in their showroom. Ben and Dan came out and did an excellent job removing the old skylight and installing the new one. We've had the new skylight for a month and a half and the skylight works well and there have been no leaks. Everyone at Windy City Skylights was competent, professional and polite. We had 3 skylights replaced on 10-12-19. The installers did an exceptional job, inside and out. We are extremely pleased with the work and time they took to ensure everything was done properly. This would have been a 5 star review, but they failed to clean out the gutters which were full of roofing nails and scrap shingle pieces. We spent this morning doing this ourselves. Windy City did my skylights in September. They did an excellent job replacing the old windows that were up there and the new skylights were great!

I was looking to replace an old skylight blind with a new blackout blind so I went to the Windy City Skylights office and met with Cody. He came out and took some measurements and ordered the blind. It took about 6 weeks to arrive and upon arrival was installed quickly. I was having a little trouble figuring out how to operate the blind and Cody came out again to help me with that. Overall the service was excellent. The product was a bit pricy, although not more so than if purchased elsewhere, but for a window blind.. Not the fault of Windy City.

I needed to replace a 40 + year-old skylight. It is an odd size so I needed to order a custom made skylight. I contacted another vendor who didn't call me back before I called Windy City Skylights. Cody came out to quote the job on the day he was scheduled. I ordered the skylight which was custom made for my opening. The skylight was completed when it was promised and installed when promised. We have had some major storms since the installation. No leaks and it is quieter than the old skylight. We are very pleased with the skylight and the job Windy City did in installing it.

Love our new skylight with remote shade to keep out that sun when it's hot outside! And no more leaking! Person who came out for the quote was timely, thorough and honest. There were some mishaps on the part of their scheduling but they ultimately rescheduled us quickly and got the job done. In the future we will give another chance and go with windy city skylights in the hope that it was indeed uncharacteristic with forgetting about us the first time. They were the best price for 5-star Velux installers, too, which was a huge plus.

I had a good experience with the salesman that gave me my estimate to the people that came to do the installation. They answered all my questions showed me how to work the remote for my shade and told me the batteries would last about a year. Windy City Skylights did an amazing job installing Velux Sun Tunnel in our upstairs hall. There are no windows and it and it was so dark. With the Sun Tunnel in there it bright and cheerful. I love it. I Highly recommend them... They were prompt, professional, and we would call them again if we had more work to be done.

In late spring we discovered our skylight was leaking. We reached out to a handful of companies to get quotes after spending time researching. Mike came out to give us a quote. He went over the process and had a binder with photos to give a visual. He was honest, thorough, and knowledgeable. Most importantly he was not pushy. Given all the rain we've had this spring/summer they weren't able to come out until Mid-August. It was worth the wait. The installers were prompt, friendly, and professional. They explained what the work entailed as well as the warranty. They cleaned up after themselves when they were done. A job well done. I would highly recommend Windy City Skylights.

From start to finish, my experience with Windy City Skylights was great. Mike clearly and thoroughly explained different skylight options. I was getting a new roof so he coordinated the skylight installation with the roof installation and everything went smoothly as planned. The installers were right on time and polite and knowledgeable. The installation of my two skylights took three hours as they said it would. They were neat and careful with my hardwood floors. On one south facing skylight I got the remote control shade which is awesome. My skylights are warranted for 15 years and the warranty is transferable to new owners should I move. Windy City provided excellent service. The sales person and installer of our skylights were first rate.; very professional. And of course, they handle Velux skylights which are the only units I would considered and they are a factory authorized installer.

We had a 36-year-old skylight replaced by Windy City Skylights. The sales rep made an appointment with us, and explained the procedure and the cost. He mentioned the optional solar-powered shade, but didn't push it. We had some time to consider and accept the offer. It took a while to get the installation, due to other larger projects ahead of us. This was explained to us by the sales rep. The installer came at the appointed time, and was very careful to explain each step to me, and to ask me to look at the work. When I noted the correct alignment, I approved the set-in, and he then proceeded to finish the roof work with new, matching shingles. We enjoy the optional ($$) solar-powered shade as a means to cut down on sunlight on really hot days. We haven't experienced a torrential rain since the installation, but we don't expect any issues. Our previous Velux skylight never leaked. Of course there is a generous warranty.

I waited a few months after installation to post this review. I'm happy to say that the new skylight from Windy City has met expectations. No more leaks! Professional service, solid price. My only minor gripe is having to wait a few weeks for the installation for scheduling purposes. Overall though I recommend them.

Highly, Highly Recommended. My skylight was a very difficult one -- 8 feet long installed on a pitched roof 40 feet high with an oval moulding and inside glass panels. Cody and Charles were professional and thorough; my custom skylight was ordered and installed on the promised installation date. Tim and Tim did an excellent job on a very difficult project -- they installed the skylight, sealed the curved molding and cleaned all the inside panels. They were exceptionally talented, courteous and friendly, despite it being a hot, dusty and somewhat treacherous project. Everything that was promised was delivered. They also provided a ten year guarantee on the skylight and labor. Call this company!!!

Recently had two old Anderson skylights replaced. Due to the age, this required custom covers and curbs. Our installer Tim arrived on a cloudy Friday morning, had to endure waiting out a midday thunderstorm, and completed the job, by HIMSELF, staying until past 6:30 on Friday night! The results are outstanding and have completely changed the look of the room. Price was very competitive compared to another Velux 5-Star installer that quoted the work, so very happy overall!

Fantastic sales presentation of the skylight selections, warranty and services. However, the installation was postponed twice (part of it was do to the continued rain fall this season); yet, the way WCS handled/explained the situation and resolved my disappointment about the delay professionally and admerably. I am sure most people understand that not one business/project is without its issue and challenge, it all comes down to is how that business handled and resolved those challenges along the way to make it a trustworthy business and worthy of recommendations. In this case with the Windy City Skylight (WCS) is one I would highly recommend. Update Feb 16, 2020: Yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, I faced my first challenge with my skylight not closing via remote control; after done the basics (replace batteries, performed reset etc. with no luck) l contacted the manufacturer Velux and as expected the office was closed until Monday; I then contacted Windy City Skylight and left a message at their office as well as a message with my original Sales person. Sure enough, first thing Monday morning I received a call from the Production Manager as well as the Sales Manager from Windy City Skylight offering support and guidance (after a short conversation they captured what I had done, they submitted a Service Request on my behalf to Velux) - Wow, that immediately made me felt very comforting already as they are primarily a Sales and Initial installation organization at this location rather than supplying any warranty repair work; by returned my call, they already went above and beyond of their responsibilities needless to say about submitted the Service request for me. The most impressive part of their support came that same day afternoon when I received an email from the Production Manager indicated that the Sales Manager is on his way over to my house (after moved a few appointments around) to see any hands-on support may be provided to get the skylight closed for now (rain was coming that evening) until the manufacturer Velux can dispatch a field technical expert to diagnose and provide the official fix/repair. Within 30 minutes of the email, the Sales Manager arrived, after validated a few things he immediately contacted the Velux Tech Support and walked him through further reset/test procedure, sure enough, the skylight was working again and closed shut - Phew, no worry about the incoming rain any more! Sorry for my long writing above; but, I was already pretty impressed with the initial sales and installation of my new Velux skylight 10-months ago; after this experience with their above & beyond after-sales support and standing-by the product (Velux) they sell, I want people to know, if you are shopping for skylight and installation, please seriousely consider the Windy City Skylight and the Velux product they carry. Last but not least, soon after the Sales Manager left my house Monday afternoon, I received a confirmation call from Velux indicated that they have received the urgent service request as well as dispatched their Technical Representative to be onsite to my house the next morning. Tuesday morning, sure enough, the Velux expert was here with all the necessary components and have the repair done & tested and left the place clean within 30 minutes. Wow, I am again impressed and very Happy! This has been a solid/definite 5-Star-Plus-Plus-Plus experience.

Adding the 14" skylight is life changing. Highly recommend them... They were prompt, professional, and we would contract them again in a heartbeat.

Ben from Windy City skylights came out on Sunday May 5th to install a Sun Tunnel in our hallway bath. Could not believe how this dark room lightened after the installement. Resembles a bright ceiling light, but its the outside light coming thru. It also lights up the hallway outside the bathroom as well. Ben did an excellent job and was very nice to deal with. Took great pride in his work, and took great care to use drop cloths and protective plastic in the work areas. Will definately call them again for any future Sun Tunnels or sky lights. Jim gave me a great price for installation on my replacement kitchen skylight and they did an awsome job, they protected all areas from debris and cleaned up after job was completed, workers are very freindly and have been trained by VELUX for installation of skylights and that's all they do, they specialize in skylights only so you know your skylight will be installed 100% correctly, they called and followed up with me after installation to make sure everything was ok and i was satisfied with my installation, They have the best warranty in the Chicago area, I am very happy with my skylight and service, thank's and good job WINDY CITY SKYLIGHTS !!

There are two Five Star Velux Skylight Specialists in Chicago. I took the time to get bids from both of them. One of the companies does business primarily in Iowa and Illinois, the other does business primarily in Illinois and Missouri. They both are certified with Velux, and offer the same quality line of products. So who to pick? I think both companies would get the job done. But in the end, I chose Windy City Skylights. Why? They offered an extended 5 year warranty on labor, provided outstanding customer service, and saved me over a grand on the other bid. The crew just finished installing two skylights with blinds today, and I couldn't be happier with the end result. I highly recommend Windy City Skylights!

I had 2 skylights replaced today and am very happy with the results. The skylights are of a much higher quality than 25 years ago when our original Velux lights were installed. The installer remained safe on such a windy day and the installation met all of my expectations. The cleanup after the job was done well too. I would recommend. Jeff D.

I was told that the installers would arrive at 8:30 in the morning and that they would call the night before to confirm. The night before no one called. At 8:45 the morning of the install, they called and said that they would be there around noon. Good thing I took the whole day off. When they arrived (around 12:30) they replaced the damaged skylight and installed the new one fairly quickly. I was not too happy as they left a lot of the shattered glass from the damaged skylight on the roof. The inside had some damaged drywall that they just hid with white caulk. Not the best install job.

Windy City Skylights installed a skylight for our daughter’s attic bedroom this month and were wonderful to work with! From scheduling the installation to guiding us on options (including dissuading us from some things we thought we wanted) to the actual day of installation, all of the WCS staff were friendly and helpful! The installers were at our home less than one day and left the house as clean as they’d found it! We would use Windy City Skylights again!! -Kelli H.

Excellent company to work with. Cody the estimator was even early. Because snow was on the roof he came back in a few weeks to do an on roof inspection although he had to be reminded via phone call re the follow up visit. But spring time is busy I am sure. The office called a week in advance to install a one skylight retro-fit with flashing kit. Chad the installer also arrived early (good thing we were already up), kept up advised of his progress, and cleaned up like he was never here. Highly recommend. Guy V.

We contacted a few contractors to get quotes on a skylight replacement and Windy City Skylights were head and shoulders above the rest. They were prompt with their appointments, they took the time to assess the entire situation before recommending a course of action, they gave a reasonable quote, and they were knowledgeable, courteous and professional throughout the process. We've since had the skylight installed and we are very happy with it. If we ever need additional skylights or work, they will be the first call I make.

Windy City did a fantastic job in replacing my 90's skylight. Their pricing was reasonable and the work was in a professional manner. We are excited to have a solar venting skylight. They also included all the tax info we needed in their packet.

After the snow we got on Monday, I wasn't sure my appointment would be kept on Friday, howerver, too my surprise, Matt showed up early in the morning, shoveled the snow off my roof and after it melted completely he installed my two skylights. We just had 3 skylights replaced. Windy City did a great job of being efficient on the front end with the quote and explanation of how the work would proceed. The new skylights are not the same size but that was not an issue with this team. The work was completed in one day and the skylights look great!

When deciding to get a Velux skylight, I asked them to recommend an installer. They gave me the name of 2 companies in my area that are on their 5 star list, meaning that they have been trained by Velux. After getting quotes from both companies I went with Windy City Skylights. Their quote was lower than the other company and, equally important in my decision were 2 additional factors. 1) My installation was going to require trim around the inside of the skylight. The first company from which I received a quote had it written into the contract that “inside trim was the homeowner’s responsibility”. Windy City provided and installed the trim. 2) Purchasing a solar shade (which I did) made me eligible for a 30% federal tax credit on all labor and materials associated with the installation. The first company that gave me a quote provided information on how to file for the credit, including information about which federal form I would have to submit. Windy City provided me with the form itself. For these 3 reasons I chose Windy City to install my Velux Skylight and was not disappointed. The gentleman who did the work was courteous and friendly. He protected the area under the skylight, worked quickly and efficiently and cleaned up after himself. I am really pleased with the service Windy City provided and with the Velux skylight.

Great job, great quality product, outstanding service, plus a great warranty on everything! They replaced our original master bathroom skylight installed by the builder, with a new state of the art skylight. They were on time, contentious about making sure not to make a mess, courteous and neat. The new skylight they installed has already made a huge difference in how hot the sun would make the bathroom and as a side effect the rest of the upstairs. Now all the light comes in, but only a small fraction of the heat gets through. I am looking forward to winter to see if it keeps the cold out better too. I highly recommend them to replace any old skylights you have. It is a great investment in your home.

I had remote-controlled blinds installed on my skylights in the bedroom. Chad did an outstanding job of installing them quickly and professionally. He did the trim around them and around a a skylight in the bathroom which is about 20 feet from the floor. Everything looks great, and I couldn't be more pleased.

I discovered Windy City Skylights quite a few years ago, and after a bad experience with a skylight that leaked that was installed by another company. It leaked badly. Windy City replaced it, but they did so thoughtfully and efficiently so after quite a few years IT IS STILL NOT LEAKING. I recommend them for the quality of their workmanship.

When we lived in Frankfort, Illinois Windy City Skylights installed 4 Velux Sun Tunnels for us. We were absolutely delighted with their work. That actually was just icing on the cake when you consider the unbelievable product they installed. These lights not only look good, they flood the room with sunlight! (Or huge amounts of, just daylight if it's cloudy). This was in 2013. Since then we've moved to central Illinois and the only problem we have with Windy City is that we have moved out of their service area. The home we moved to desperately needs some Velux Sun Tunnels from Windy City, but we've been unable to convince them to open a branch near us. Thanks Windy City! We hope you'll reconsider.

About a year ago I contacted Wide City Skylights to give me an estimate on having some skylights installed. After talking pro and cons with the sales person which was a no ppressure experience I desiderate to have I. I had two installed in my family room. Now comes the unbelievable part. No money down until the job is done. The job was a total project with all drywall and painting. Now here is another shock, my ceiling color was an off white so they took a piece of the drywall to a paint Store to have it color matched. Wow! I'm not done, I have a big older TV that was close to the job and I didn't want to move it off the wall. They said OK and they went and built a plywood shield around it. These guys were the best. The job was perfect and the solar shades I ordered with the skylights are a must and work perfect.

We love our new Sun Tunnel skylights installed by Windy City Skylights. The process was easy from start to finish. Cody was very thorough on explaining everything and the installers did a great job. Amazed at how much brighter our living area is. Highly recommend Windy City Skylights.

Windy City Skylights did an amazing job installing Velux Sun Tunnel in our upstairs hall. There are no windows and it and it was so dark. With the Sun Tunnel in there it bright and cheerful. I love it. I Highly recommend them... They were prompt, professional, and we would call them again if we had more work to be done.

Ben from Windy City skylights came out on Sunday May 5th to install a Sun Tunnel in our hallway bath. Could not believe how this dark room lightened after the installement. Resembles a bright ceiling light, but its the outside light coming thru. It also lights up the hallway outside the bathroom as well. Ben did an excellent job and was very nice to deal with. Took great pride in his work, and took great care to use drop cloths and protective plastic in the work areas. Will definately call them again for any future Sun Tunnels or sky lights.
