Installation Process
Expert installation made easy.
VELUX® skylight systems and Sun Tunnel® Skylights can be installed in flat or vaulted ceilings in two worry-free phases: rooftop and interior. The pros at T. Barkocy LLC will recommend where skylight systems should be installed, so you can reap the maximum benefit from the natural light and fresh air they provide.
Installation Types
The Room
VELUX-trained pros will come inside for interior finish work and possible painting. If you have a flat ceiling, your installer will use drywall or other finish material to build a shaft from the skylight to direct the daylight into the room. This phase takes around half a day per skylight.
The Rooftop
VELUX-trained pros will cut a hole and fasten the VELUX skylight to the roof with three layers of protection to prevent leaks. Depending on the circumstances such as roof pitch and weather, the rooftop phase can take between one and three days.

The Room
VELUX-trained pros will cut a hole in the ceiling to install the lower portion of the reflective tube between the roof and ceiling.
The Rooftop
VELUX-trained pros will cut a hole in the roof and install the top collar, the upper portion of the reflective tunnel, the lens and the flashing.

There may be a small amount of interior drywall work depending on your replacement situation, but the majority of the replacement process will take place on the roof.

Tom was a pleasure to deal with, extremely knowledgeable and honest. I had a leak in ceiling of my bathroom. I had a roofer come and look at it twice and they finally told me it was the skylight. I called two skylight companies. Tom was one of them. The first company I called gave me an estimate for the skylight over the phone without coming to take a look. Tom came and told me that it wasn’t the skylight at all. There were two areas on my roof that needed repairs. He could have told me that I needed a new skylight as well but he was honest and he saved me money. Contractors like Tom are hard to find. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Tom Barkocy is the best ! I wish he did everything so that I never had to hire anyone else. My skylight was leaking into the living room. I had 5 companies give me an estimate - all from personal recommendations. Tom was the ONLY ONE who suggested a temporary sealant to try and stop the leak. He didn't know I was going to hire him for the job but he cared enough to do it. And at no charge. His price was very fair and his work is exceptional!

EXCELLENT SERVICE! My second time using him… He does an awesome job, quick prompt and reasonable… He replaced one of my skylights two years ago and I called him back for the second one and I couldn’t be happier! If anyone needs any roofing or skylight job/repair , Tom is the guy!!

We hired Tom to install a skylight in our attic space. Tom was super responsive, came out right away and talked us through everything. We were on a tight schedule and he really worked w us to accommodate us. On the day of the installation, he came bright and early and did a great job. We even had an issue come up in the middle of the job with some electrical wiring in the way, and Tom handled it himself. We are really thrilled with how the space looks now. It’s bright and airy. Thank you! 5/5 stars

I originally found Tom on Angie’s list about 6 years ago when I needed a roof leak patched. He was responsive, professional, and personal (and he did great work), so there was only one number to call when I needed skylights installed. This job was decidedly bigger and Tom handled it with ease. He was honest, personable, reliable, and knowledgeable, providing multiple options and helping guide the process when decisions needed to be made. His work is guaranteed, but I don’t need the guarantee to have faith in the work he’s done. If you have any need for skylights or roof repair, do yourself a favor and give Tom a call.

WOULD USE AGAIN! Tom replaced one and remounted another skylight that was installed poorly by another big-time area roofer. His dedication to detail gave us confidence. I fortunately was able to walk my rooftop to inspect the work later that day! Would recommend to friends. Larger companies are only as dependable as their WORST installer that may show up.

Installation of the skylights by Tom Barkocy was excellent and I originally provided an excellent review. However, Tom failed to complete the trim and hasn't responded to multiple attempts to reach him by phone, email, Facebook Messenger and a fax. Last October he sent me a note promising to get back to me that day. He didn't. I didn't push for awhile, thinking it might be Covid related, but this is ridiculously poor service. Also, the solar powered skylight he installed in our bathroom hasn't worked for more than a year - making the solar installation a waste of money.

Very hard to find a knowledgeable, professional and most importantly honest contractor - Tom personifies all these qualities. My home has a skylight which we needed to have inspected for potential repair. Of the variety of contractors I reached out to for my skylight inspection, Tom was fantastic. He kept in communication, scheduled / showed up on time, thoroughly inspected the interior / exterior and gave a comprehensive assessment of what needs to be done. He took the time to actual share the basis for his assessment and what potentially needs to be done ( along with what potential windows could be better served for my home & why ). He explained the roofing angles and what type of setup is best for particular roofs. He has great enthusiasm for what he does, someone who genuinely enjoys their craft and providing the best possible services to clients. Highly recommend.
