Installation Process

Expert installation made easy.

VELUX® skylight systems and Sun Tunnel® Skylights can be installed in flat or vaulted ceilings in two worry-free phases: rooftop and interior. The pros will recommend where skylight systems should be installed, so you can reap the maximum benefit from the natural light and fresh air they provide.

Installation Types

The Room

VELUX-trained pros will come inside for interior finish work and possible painting. If you have a flat ceiling, your installer will use drywall or other finish material to build a shaft from the skylight to direct the daylight into the room. This phase takes around half a day per skylight.

The Rooftop

VELUX-trained pros will cut a hole and fasten the VELUX skylight to the roof with three layers of protection to prevent leaks. Depending on the circumstances such as roof pitch and weather, the rooftop phase can take between one and three days.
2-3+ Days Total*

The Room

The Rooftop

VELUX-trained pros will cut a hole in the roof and install the top collar, the upper portion of the reflective tunnel, the lens and the flashing.
2 Hours*

The Room

There may be a small amount of interior drywall work depending on your replacement situation, but the majority of the replacement process will take place on the roof.

The Rooftop

Mitchell and his team (Jose and Alfredo) absolutely blew it out of the water with our fireplace remodel. They were timely, paid careful attention to detail (did not rush the job) and were respectful of my family’s space and home. We absolutely LOVE our new fireplace, it brightens up our whole house. Before after pics here.

Recently we completed a large commercial restaurant build known as Casa Brasa in University Park at 8111 Preston Road, Dallas Texas. Gilmon Fox GC worked through Sarah and Mitch with Southwest Skylights of Dallas to design, manufacture. And install a large Velux Skylight with operating shades from Denmark. The entire project although challenging due the type of build and logistical challenges associated with external factors, was streamlined and handled professionally by our partners at Southwest. There’s no doubt that if given the opportunity again. both the owners group of Casa Brasa as well I would utilize there expertise and highly recommend you check them out if your considering a skylight feature for your commercial or residential project!
