VELUX SOLAR POWERED FRESH AIR SKYLIGHTS
AIA BOOTH 1747 – PENNSYLVANIA CONVENTION CENTER – PHILADELPHIA, PA

PHILADELPHIA, PA – MAY 19-21, 2016 – VELUX® America’s award winning Solar Powered No Leak Fresh Air Skylights feature “Clean, Quiet & Safe Glass” as well as a completely redesigned Intelligent Touch Remote Control.

According to Ross Vandermark, national product manager for VELUX America, the latest features are important additions that make VELUX Solar Powered Fresh Air Skylights the logical choice for many skylight applications.

Clean, Quiet & Safe Glass

This glass option keeps VELUX skylights cleaner, reduces outside noise, and takes the guesswork out of interpreting local building codes for the type of glass required for out-of-reach applications.

Clean - A super thin coating of both titanium dioxide and silicone dioxide on the exterior surface of the laminated glass will smooth the glass and, with the help of the sun, destroy organic matter deposited on skylights over time. Then, the next time it rains, this organic matter is washed away keeping the skylight glass cleaner longer. Quiet - Laminated glass reduces outside noise by up to 25 percent when compared to a standard double pane glass and up to 50 percent more when compared to a plastic skylight. Safe - US building codes require laminated glass be used in out-of-reach applications where any point of the glass is 12 feet above the floor of the room. VELUX Clean, Quiet & Safe glass is laminated and meets or exceeds this important building code requirement nationwide. The new glass option also carries a 10-year warranty against hail damage on the glass itself.

Remote Control

The KLR-200 touch-screen remote, which can be wall-mounted or hand-held, controls VELUX electric and Solar Powered Fresh Air Skylights and blinds. “The unit utilizes easily understood icons and is extremely user friendly so it is easier to program and use, plus it comes with pre-set programs that automate commonly used functions of the skylights,” Vandermark says.

“This remote is the latest in our line of electric controls,” Vandermark says, “which includes the most technologically advanced products in the skylight industry.” The remote is included with all VELUX electric and solar powered skylights.

Blinds

An important element of the VELUX Solar Powered Fresh Air Skylight line is the blind selection and the company is emphasizing the advantages of adding blinds, especially solar powered blinds, to its solar powered skylights.

“For instance,” Vandermark says, “adding a blackout blind to a skylight can improve the energy performance rating as much as 45 percent, light filtering blinds by as much as 39 percent, and venetian blinds by as much as 34 percent. “Our ENERGY STAR® certified skylights are already highly energy efficient,” he says,” but utilizing a variety of blind options and accessories offers homeowners not only more energy savings but aesthetic as well as functional benefits.” Vandermark says that VELUX blinds can be operated manually with control rods, electrically, or by solar power with remote control units.

VELUX solar powered skylights, along with solar powered blinds, as well as the installation costs, are eligible for a 30 percent federal tax credit.
