The existing ranch style home was built into a hill with a full walkout wall of primarily windows and doors on both levels facing a secluded lake. The clients wanted a two-story sunroom that featured a hot tub on the lower floor and an upper floor balcony to overlook the room and view to the lake. The client also wanted to maintain as much natural light flooding into the upper floor dining and living room when the new addition was added.

While the new addition design did have a full wall of windows looking out to the lake, both the architect and builder agreed that adding a total of twelve skylights in the new roof structure would better enlighten the new room and existing rooms with natural light.

Eight of the skylights are fixed and the top four units are electric venting skylights. The finished room measures 13’ x 13’ and has a ceiling height of 23’.
