This kitchen, living room, and dining room renovation project brought a dark, low ceiling, 1970’s ranch style house into the next century with the inventive use of skylights. The client, the daughter of an architect, had always lived in spacious, light-filled buildings. She felt claustrophobic with the 7'8" ceiling height.

Her husband, an art dealer, required indirect natural light to show off his collection. The design solution opened up the spaces between the joists splaying up to the skylights and thereby raising the perceived ceiling height. The skylights bring a wonderful, natural light into the spaces that change dramatically throughout the day and night.
