Bourget Brothers Building Materials
Santa Monica, California
Products: FCM curb mounted fixed skylights with custom curb adapters

Bourget Brothers Building Materials has been selling masonry supplies in Santa Monica, California for over fifty-three years. Bourget Brothers first opened in 1947 after brothers Henry, Lawrence and Leo Bourget bought a concrete manufacturing plant in Santa Monica. With an initial investment of $300.00 they opened Bourget Concrete Products Company. It was a tough beginning, but the company was a success. In 1950 the brothers stopped manufacturing masonry units and expanded their product line to include natural building stone, plumbing, masonry, brick and landscaping supplies. The company also saw the addition of tools and hardware in the 1950's, resulting in a complete building materials supply house.

Today, Bourget Brothers' business is growing fast. As a result of this growth, they are upgrading their warehouse to increase sales and facilitate expansion into new product areas. The entire selling floor is being redone to reflect their expanded business. The original roof is being replaced as are the "old wired glass and metal framed skylights." With the effects of time and the weather, these units (53" x 124 ½") were badly deteriorated and much in need of replacement.

VELUX® offered a unique and innovative solution to the Bourget Brothers skylight replacement problem, which consisted of a unitized curb adapter and 4 size 4646 FCM fixed curb mounted skylights in each of the six skylight openings. The custom curb adapter allowed for a completely unitized solution for the existing openings. There is no potential for leaks, as the adapter is continuously factory welded into a single piece.

In addition, this system is extremely price competitive as compared to other structural glass skylights. It is even more affordable than any other plastic/acrylic structural skylights on the market. For about $900 (including all 4 skylights and the curb adapter), VELUX was able to offer a 53" x 124 ½" structural skylight (approximately 47 square feet). That's around $19.00 per square foot of daylight!!!! Not only is the VELUX solution very affordable, but it also provides energy efficiency and carries the best warranty in the business; all from VELUX, the worldwide leader in residential and commercial skylights.

This system offered the following to our customer:

  1. Four (4) 2246 VELUX FCM skylight units on each curb adapter (each is 26 ½” x 50 ½”)
  2. Each FCM skylight features comfortplus laminated glass IG Unit filled with Argon gas and a low-E2 coating
  3. Meets ENERGY STAR® guidelines nationwide
